What exactly is Malaysia's e-invoicing mandate?
LHDN's e-invoicing initiative (via the MyInvois system) requires all Malaysian businesses to issue, submit, and receive invoices electronically through LHDN's platform. It's not just a software change β every invoice you issue now needs to be validated by LHDN in real time.
When does this apply to my business?
The mandate is rolling out in phases based on annual turnover. Phase 1 began in August 2024 for large businesses. Phase 3 targets all businesses above RM 150K annual turnover. Contact us and we'll tell you your exact deadline β it's specific to your financial year and turnover.
Does this apply if I only sell to consumers (B2C)?
Currently, the mandate primarily applies to B2B transactions β invoices issued between registered businesses. B2C transactions have a different, simplified compliance path. We'll assess your specific situation during consultation.
Can I use my existing accounting software?
Possibly, if your software has been updated to integrate with the MyInvois API. We'll assess this during your consultation. If your current software isn't MyInvois-compatible, we'll recommend alternatives β including some that are free for small businesses.
